mine is simple, just study, study, study, study and after that also continue with study, hehe...until you are tired enough and go to sleep...

when boring, just release your strees with a cup of tea/coffee while watching your fav series, hehe, maybe that helps...

~ just my humble opinion ~

Hi Eric

I just found your blog, having followed a link (I think) from the Zen Habits blog.

I'm going to be studying Communications, rather than medicine, in the coming semester, but the tips you've laid out about are pretty much relevant regardless of study subject.

Thanks for a great blog post.

Great to hear you're swamped! :) I'm glad you're enjoying your school time. Let me know how these suggestions work for you. This kind of stuff is always a work in progress.

Regarding "studying formulas" - there's many that are recommended, mostly all focused on tonifying Spleen Qi as this is what is allegedly most damaged when we use our brains too much. Many of them also give a boost to the Heart organ system. Personally, when I'm studying if my basic methods (drinking lots of water, eating well, getting sleep and exercise) aren't working I will drink some Ju Hua and Gou Qi Zi, sometimes with a little Dang Gui as a tea. It's mild enough not to be damaging and tonifying enough to make me feel a little stronger.

Personally, I don't think you should normally take herbs without checking the pulse and the rest of the picture and prescribing the formula that is asked for by the body... but that's me. :)

Hello Eric!! It's been a long time since I've commented. Swamped with school. Learning this new medicine has been time-consuming to say the least. But I love it. Hope all is well with you.

Your suggestions sound great. I'm going to try and add them to my study habits. I'm in the same boat as you regarding wanting to excel in everything. I'm trying my best to get out of that mindset. What I've found that really helps is talking to my classmates about the material. Explaining things to them or having them clarify things for me helps me to memorize the information more so than lecture does. Even just talking about how we theories and applications impact our daily lives is really beneficial. It's really very exciting and cool.

I'm not taking herbs yet (next semester, yay!) but I recall one of our teachers talking about a formula he takes when he studies a lot. Do you do anything of the sort? Would be interested to hear your take on that.
