Hey Lauren,

Well, most of the scholarships I've received have been from my school. I was eligible for a couple during my first year because of specific things I did in my last graduate program. There are two acupuncture/chinese medicine specific scholarships I know of that are available for anyone - check out Nuherbs (under "giving back" on their webpage) and ... darn, I can't remember the other one. Just do a Google Search for "acupuncture scholarships" and you'll run across all the ones that currently exist.

Good luck!

I specifically agree with number 4 (Use all your senses to study). We truly are sensual animal. I tell all my students to imagine what you are reading. See it as if you are the author writing it. Think about what it would smell like if you were there. Think about what it would sound like if you were there. This type of imagery does wonders for the memory!

A little off topic but interesting and relevant I think.

This article on short-term stress impairing memory. My interpretation: exams are counterproductive.

Wow Erika! Thanks so much for your kind comments. I really appreciate the sentiment. Hopefully I will get to meet with you in person - we're trying to increase OCOM-NCNM cross pollination. :)

Good luck on your journey and I hope we'll see you commenting soon.

Hey Eric,
I just stumbled upon your blog while searching for TCM/Acupuncture scholarships and was really blown away. I have recently been accepted to OCOM and will be moving to Portland to begin my studies this fall. I am completely excited and eager to jump in and was pleasantly surprised to discover someone with even stronger enthusiasm at the other end of the formal education process! I felt truly touched after reading a handful of your thoughts, visions and personal philosophies. Thanks for posting something that I not only can look forward to reading because of its direct pertinence to my career but also because it is so real and stimulating.

I also thank you for this blog. So many of these points I agree with, and as I'm starting classes in CM next week, it's great to have some insights from someone who is already on the path, well ahead of me.

Also, in my giddiness to begin, I started reading many of the books that have arrived in preparation for my classes. I was very glad to read your point on "don't study too far ahead" and "don't read too much". Strangely, I had intuited that very thought (before reading it here) and I changed from reading the books to become more familiar at how to find the content within them, how they are organized, how they inter-relate. I will have time to read them as my classes and professors provide guidance. But it was nice to be reinforced.

Great points. Thanks for sharing them. I think I might be looking at more of your posts when I have available "me" time.
