During a visit in an alternative medicine clinic using acupuncture, I changed my mind about having the procedure done. I totally agree with your point that the practitioner must have good contact with the patient and maintain that throughout the visit. He seem so distant and I feel like a doll that a witch is about to needle.

I haven't seen this mentioned on your blog, but my acupuncturist taught me the micrcosmic orbit and it has really been transformative for me - needles work, but this is something I can do myself!

Hey Natalia,

Glad to hear you found some relief for your son! As for insurance for acupuncture - many plans do, indeed, cover some Chinese medicine services including acupuncture. Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield is one of the best, but many national plans have some provision for the use of acupuncture. Good luck!

Very interesting article. I respect Chinese medicine and know many people whose health improved dramatically due to acupuncture. I never tried it myself, but we did try acupressure with my infant son. Actually, it was a part of NAET (allergy elimination treatment), which turned out to be very succesful (even though I was vERY skeptical in the beginning). I described our experience with it in my blog:

http://www.organicbenefits.straightanswers.net/naet-1.html

Well, anyway, acupressure might not be as effective as acupuncture, but in some cases (like with my baby), acupressure is the only choice.

Does anyone know if insurance companies cover acupuncture costs? It was a no-go with NAET unfortunately.:-(

I'm afraid of needles. But I have great belief on Chinese medicine that involves use of herbs. However, after reading the good benefits that I could get from acupuncture here, maybe I could convince and persuade myself to go through it. Thank you for explaining such a complex topic on simple terms.

Thanks for this terrific article! I used to practice Ayurvedic (ancient East Indian) medicine and have long marveled at the similarities between the two schools of practice. Whereas Chinese medicine and acupuncture focus on enlivening the Qi, Ayurveda focuses on enlivening agni (digestive fire) and ojas (bliss). I've had great results from both Ayurveda and acupuncture - thanks for the reminder to get back into the latter! Time to book an appointment...
