I have tried, and failed, many times to get a blog going about my experiences with Classical Chinese Medicine. I think the problem is simply my perception of blogging. I’ve had an “online life” since I was 17. I remember when the first link to the (rather dubiously regarded, then) “internet” appeared on my favorite BBS’ webpage. I kept some version of an online journal from the beginning. In those journals, I was often frank – not editing my posts for grammar or content. Although I’m quite sure some of my content during that time was iffy at best, it was a great outlet and I was able to work through some pretty difficult concepts with the help of people who read my journal. When blogs started rising in numbers, I thought I would put one together. Something about the format, or my perception of the format, has prevented me from getting anything good going…. particularly about Chinese Medicine.
Now I feel it’s time for me to overcome these issues and blog about this topic that is such a huge part of my life. I’d like to keep the format open, but topics covered will likely include:
- Exploration of theoretical topics in Chinese medicine
- An example post title: “How do the five elements and six conformations interact?”
- Discussion of socio-political issues and their interesections with Chinese medicine
- An example post title: “Should the FDA be regulating herbs in a similar manner to the way it regulates human-made drugs?”
- My observations about my school, my peers, and the profession of Chinese medicine in the United States
- An example post title: “Why are Chinese medicine students less likely to be involved in school-wide activities at NCNM?”
- Reflections about my experiences as a student, patient and, eventually, physician in this medical community
- An example post title: “My experience of the difference between a TCM treatment and a CCM treatment.”
- Reports about research I am involved with – also information about my theses, maybe even partial chapters
- An example post title: “On why Chinese medicine is a practice as defined by Alasdair MacIntyre.”
- Articles covering topics in Chinese medicine that will be relevant to the public
- An example post title: “Getting healthier, more satisfying sleep with Classical Chinese medicine.”
How does that sound? I’m shooting for a post a week to begin with.
