Hi Eric, could you expound more on the Shang han lun pulse system, that you learned with your teacher. I also be very interested to know the Chinese source text that he gathered the pulse material from. You where very lucky to have such a great teacher.
The adage that goes: two months with a good teacher is like one year with a bad one, is so true.

I haven't read it for a while.

My feeling is that it is a bit too glib/simplistic. It is a good introduction for those interested I think, though probably not enough to be a text for practitioners. Some of the 'personalities' associated with the elements I find a bit dubious.

There's lots worse around but also some better in my opinion.

Evan,

That book is fine. I don't agree with some of what it says, and I hear you about the modular approach. My sense is that it oversimplifies things a bit too much but serves as a decent intro to people who don't have any plans to become practitioners.

What do you think aside from the modular approach comment? Maybe I should read it again and write a review.

Eric,

How I envy you the good teaching on the pulse. How rare this is!

Have you read Between Heaven and Earth. They push the modular approach about as far as it can go I think.

If you've read it I'd like to know what you make of it.

Wow! Thanks for that little insight on the modular nature of formulas! That's a huge bit of food for thought about how I create formulas and how I *will* create formulas!
