I have been trying to learn more about Chinese medicine and how to incorporate it more into my way of life. I don't take any kind of meds, and am trying to get off of any processed foods. What I really need to find is a good way to cleanse the liver because I think I did some damage when I was younger and drinking more than I should.

The 1st point is a the clincher. When speaking to prospective patients, I've found that the latter points are "icing on the cake." However, these are always fun to start with because in their head, they're asking the question while you list off points 2-5--and the question gets louder and louder in their head, "yeah, but does it work? Does it WORK? " then you answer it matter of fact and drive the whole package home. I hate to do it, but I will make an analogy to buying a car. This analogy probably isn't too far off seeing as that many people lump CM practitioners in with those selling dubious products/services (used car salesmen, chiropractors, timeshares, etc.). The high dollar low volume salesman doesn't start off with the most obvious fact about the car, the price. Rather, they descibe the traction control system, the dent proof fenders, the navigation system, and when the prospective buyer finally demands for the price and asks if the vehicle actually runs, only then does the the seller say, somethine like "Oh boy does it run! and you can take it home for only $X. "

Anyway, more than anything, I'm glad our car not only runs, but runs well, has a virtually non-existant carbon footprint, and is very reasonably priced.

I'm always impressed with the care Chinese doctors give to patients. The intake process is more about getting to know the person whereas in the US its more about covering yourself from malpractice. The Chinese physicians take all of the patients concerns under advisement and truly listen to the patient because they know that the patient knows his or her body best.

Thanks for the insight -- Thinking about the pollutants dumped into waterways by the pharmaceutical industry is indeed an important factor to consider when comparing the two styles of medicinal practice, but yes -- one must always take into consideration the entirety of the issue. I would sincerely love it if you'd do another post on the environmental factors to consider when "importing herbal products from China" -- the more in-depth, the better!

Its time about an people are realizing the bad side effects of western medicine which rely basically on drugs sourced from chemicals. The alternatives are now taking root like the chinese medicines and the Ayurveda.Along with this more Westerners are found to be attracted to the yoga lifestyle. The best part of Chinese and ayurveda is that the medicines comes from nature in the form of herbs and practiced through many centuries gone through refinement processes over the periods.

Just thought I would add my two pence...

Chinese herbs do work, I was seriously ill and had exhausted all western medicine and left to rot at the age of 16. I turned to natural healing including various eastern methods now at 20 I am better than ever. I have my life back on track doing things I never imagined before. It absolutely infuriates me when I look at what Big Pharma are getting away with. I am now constantly studying natural medicine and discovering it has been the best thing that could of happened to me.
