Thank you so much for taking the time to share what you have learned. Chinese medicine is very complex and your general, readable account is full of great details. I've never paid close attention to my body before, but right now, I see more clearly than ever that everything we experience, physically and otherwise, happens for a reason. I am currently on a spiritual quest and sensations in my body are one of the ways in which the universe is communicating with me. Usually, I can figure out what it wants me to know, but I've also had sensations in specific areas (kidney and lung) that were inexplicable to me. Your blog helped me understand what the pain represented (and as soon as I got the message, the pain went away).

Mike,

I still have those sorts of dreams. Once I saw visually a whole "phantom" lecture that I had subconsciously heard as a part of a "real" lecture the day before from Heiner. I had been in a 3 hour class with him where he was talking primarily about Triple Burner - but had the sense the whole time that I was listening to a "second track" without knowing it. That night I dreamed the "second track" which was about something else entirely. Subliminal lecturing! :D

I agree, understanding physiology is vital. It's a shame this seems to be infrequently taught in CM schools. Thank you for elaborating on this point, Grasshopper.

Across the Taiyin, the dryness of the Lung mediates, and is mediated by, the dampness of the Spleen. The Lung receives cereal Jing from the Spleen in order to form Ying Qi. If the Spleen fails to form adequate cereal Jing or the Lung fails to form adequate Ying Qi from cereal Jing, the Bladder may not have adequate Ying Qi to retain urine. Thus incontinence.

The Lung has a descending movement, but it also has an ascending movement. More specifically, the Lung pulls water up from the Kidney. If the Lung fails in this function, water can simply drop out of the Kidney (Bladder)—incontinence. (Kidney Yang helps to ascend water to the Lungs. If Kidney Yang is deficient, this can also result in incontinence.)

So, if you understand Chinese physiology, you can understand Lu-7's ability to treat urinary disturbances.

2nd semester I was having the occasional instructional dream where a concept was announced to me in some way. I remember one of them being "Use the Lungs to course the Bladder."

As we see defined here.
