Resources

This page is still a work in progress, but contains some great resources already. I’ve provided a brief description of each resource.

Classical Chinese Medicine related websites and blogs

Arnaud Versluys.com : Website of Arnaud Versluys, internationally recognized scholar of the Shang Han Lun school of CM. Includes information about his private practice as well as a growing forum dedicated to the discussion of Classical Chinese medicine concepts. Highly recommended.

Classical Chinese Medicine.org : Website of one of the most well known proponents of Classical Chinese Medicine in the world, Heiner Fruehauf and a group of dedicated professionals he has assembled to distribute excellent information via the Internet. There are free resources, but the real gem of the site is the subscription service. By registering and paying a fee, you will be in on the international discussion about Classical Chinese Medicine and have access to resources unparalleled anywhere in the world or on the Internet. Highly recommended.

Way of the Horse: Chinese Medicine Wiki : Here’s a Wiki (web page editable by anyone) that is destined to be a rich source of basic information on Classical Chinese Medicine. It’s put together by a student at NCNM and she welcomes anyone’s input. I will certainly be contributing at some point in the near future.

General Chinese medicine websites and blogs

Chinese Medicine Times : Chinese medicine and acupuncture ejournal for practitioners and students.  A great resource for information for students and practitioners of all levels and interests.

Rootdown.us : A site with INCREDIBLE potential – but it requires the actions of all of us. Great resource for students and practitioners, as well as the generally savvy public. It contains a comprehensive database of herbs, formulas and points with great extras and wonderful community building features including forums, profiles and more. Check out my full review of Rootdown.us and then go set up your account.

http://www.tcmassistant.com : Complete database of Chinese herbs and formulas, including prescription tools for
professionals and information on manufacturers and retailers. This is especially good for students and practitioners – you just have to sign up for an account and you get hooked up to a great database of formulas, easily searchable. The interface is a little clunky, but overall it’s a good resource.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Health-Info : Chinese medicine & Acupuncture (TCM) information for students, practitioners, and patients. Complete with pictures and information on over 300 Chinese herbs & formulas, Tuina massage, disease treatment, diet, and much more. A well organized and readable resource.

Dragon Rises : A site associated with Dr. Leon Hammer, his work and colleagues with a particular focus on his work with contemporary pulse diagnosis. A great resource for anyone serious about using the pulse in a rigorous way.

Pulse Diagnosis.com : This is an interesting site I recently ran across. It contains some interesting, thoughtfully composed information on basic concepts in Chinese medicine with a decidedly classical bent. There’s not a lot there, but what there is has worth.

Acupuncture specific

Acuxo.com : A simply incredible resource for acupuncture and its related arts. The images are unparalleled on the web and there is even a point finder based on symptoms that, while quite over-simplified, can act as a starting point for investigation, particularly for students and new practitioners.

Lifestyle, food and drink specific

Heaven’s Tea : Yes, tea is medicine. Home of Paul Rosenberg, tea monk and truly wonderful person. His private tea tastings are unparalleled and he can be your conduit for acquiring some seriously incredible tea. Recently, he was featured in the New York Times in an article about tea in Portland, OR. Check out his site immediately.

General natural health websites and blogs

National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM): The the oldest continually operating school of naturopathic medicine in the country and home of the one of a kind Classical Chinese Medicine program in which I am enrolled. Every year this school does things that amaze me. It is a one-of-a-kind community and located in the greatest city in the United States. I love it.

Helfgott Blog : Primarily student-run blog associated with Helfgott Research Institute, a vibrant center for excellent research about natural health. Helfgott Research Institute is associated with the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. This institutional partnership is part of the core of the natural medicine revolution that has its epicenter in Portland. The blog is new, but covers a diverse array of topics in many formats. Excellent resource.

Directories to find health related information online (outside of the obvious)

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Directory: This is one of the best CM directories I’ve seen. It is a great place to start your exploration of Chinese medicine on the web, and could be an especially good resource for new practitioners as the practitioner database is first rate. Check it out.

The Nursing Online Database created a great directory of the 100 Top Health related websites. Much of it is Western health information, but it’s all quite useful.

Websites/Blogs about cultivating excellence, character development and personal productivity

Steve Pavlina.com : Reigning Internet King of all things personal productivity related. Check out his articles, blog and especially the recently launched forums.

Urban Monk.net : ” UrbanMonk.Net was created to help you get even more of these three things: Bliss, Success, and Love.” Great site viewing the world of personal development through compassionate and intentful eyes.

Entrepreneur’s Journey.com : For those of you who are a little more tech-savvy and may even e considering starting an online business or blog of your own, check out Yaro. A very approachable style and solid advice all in an Australian package. What’s not to love? This is the man from whom I am learning to blog. Interested? Check out his amazing free Blog Profits Blueprint and the Blog Mastermind Program.
